Paul Joseph Hailer

On January 18, 2014 Paul Joseph Hailer passed on from this world.

The third child of Theresa (Cardello) and Frederick C. Hailer he was a good brother to the late Frederick Jr., the late Jeannette Benson, Theresa Rudnick of Cape Cod, Richard of Florida and Peter of Michigan. 

After he served in the Navy Medical Corps in Okinawa during WWII, he came home to marry Grace A. Brown of Medford and follow in his father’s footsteps to become a registered pharmacist opening his first drugstore, Hailer Drugs, in Jamaica Plain 1948.  He moved to Scituate in 1956 where he owned and operated Colonial Drug in Scituate Harbor and Cushing Plaza Pharmacy in Cohasset.  In 1967 he opened Harwich Center Pharmacy on Cape Cod.  Over the course of their 67 year marriage, he and Grace raised six children: Phil, Steve, Paula (Villanova), Gerard, Karla and Grace Anne. He loved his family and playing golf, retiring to Sarasota, Florida. A well respected member of the community, he was active at Hatherly Country Club and the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club as well the Grand Knight of the Scituate Council of the Knights of Columbus. He leaves behind his beloved wife, of sixty seven years, Grace and his six children, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday morning January 21  from 8:30 – 9:30am in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham on  Tuesday at 10am. Burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to his favorite charity the Shrine of St. Anthony at 100 Arch Street Boston, MA.
