Buttkus, Paul Joseph of East Dennis, 86, formerly of Hingham and Belmont, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008, surrounded by his family after a long period of failing health. Paul was born March 19, 1921 to the late Margaret (Quinn) and Walter Buttkus, older brother to the late Walter Buttkus, Jr. Paul is survived by his loving wife Mary of 55 years. Son Peter and daughter-in-law Laurie Buttkus. Daughter Paula and son-in-law William McNamara. Cherished grandfather to Margaret and Kari Buttkus, Erin, William, and Patrick McNamara. Paul served proudly for 3 years in the US Army under Gen. George Patton’s 749th Tank Division during WWII, after graduating from Boston Trade School. Paul is retired from Natick Labs after 32 years of service as a ballistics engineer and body armorment specialist for the Federal Government. Paul was an honest, hard working, selfless father and grandfather who enjoyed cooking for his family and many friends. He will always be remembered by those who knew him for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and devotion to family and country. We will miss him greatly, remember him with love and truly mourn his passing. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North St, Hingham on Wednesday at 10 AM. Burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul J. Buttkus may be made to either the Disabled American Veterans, State House – Room 546, Boston, MA 02133 or Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
