Canavan, Paul J. of Quincy, died August 29, 2017.
Beloved husband of the late Rosemary Canavan (McGinness). Loving father of Barbara Canavan of Quincy, Paul S. Canavan and his wife Marion of Quincy, John Canavan of Weymouth, Patrick Canavan and his fiancee Mary Claire Yanga of CA, and the late Michele Canavan. Devoted Papa of Kevin, Jason, Patrick, Carmela, Cameron and Charlotte. Caring brother of John Canavan of South Boston, Rev. Peter K. Canavan and his partner Stewart Stevens of CA, and the late Barbara Canavan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Paul was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, serving for eight years including time in Korea. After working for the MBTA for many years as a Track Engineer, he retired in 1999. He was a dedicated New England sports fan who followed the Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots and Celtics. In his earlier years, Paul was a member of the South Boston Brownies. He was a devoted music fan and enjoyed Irish, big band and jazz as well as classical music. Paul was an avid walker, especially fond of Castle Island. He also enjoyed reading literature and poetry. Paul’s main passion in life was his family, caring for his wife while she was ill and spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could. Paul will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Mass General Cancer Center, c/o Development Office, 125 Nashua St, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
