Paul Anthony Mcdonough

Paul Anthony McDonough, of Hingham, died peacefully with his daughters by his side on January 24, 2022.

Paul was born on May 6th, 1938, to Edward and Helen (Lydon) McDonough.  He grew up on Spring Garden Street in Dorchester with his three brothers and three sisters.   After graduating high school, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany.  Post service he worked in construction; starting as a piledriver; then progressing to a foreman on the John Hancock Building, Mystic River Bridge and the International terminal at Logan Airport.

Paul had married Joyce Tenczar in 1965.  Together they brought three lovely daughters into the world that they raised in Hingham, MA.  Great travelers, Paul and Joyce explored many regions of the world.  Some of their best memories are trips they took in Egypt, Cuba, Turkey and most recently Barcelona, Spain.  Many fond memories from these trips were shared with everyone they knew.  Paul and Joyce celebrated 54 years of marriage before her passing.

After studying criminal justice at Northeastern University and graduating with high honors, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Boston Police Department.  As a patrolman for many years, he worked in Hyde Park and Roxbury.  Paul spent his final years as an instructor at the Moon Island Firing Range and retired after 34 years of service.

Paul adored his family, especially his grandchildren.  He is the cherished father of Paula McDonough and her partner Robert Zerbonia of Portsmouth, NH; Pamela Hunter and her husband Shane of Norwell: Jill Donovan and her husband Sean of Norwell.  Loving “Grandpa” of Keely, Aleksander and Cole Hunter; and Emeline, Maggie, Evie and Thomas Donovan.

Paul was a great friend to all he met and lived life to the fullest.  He was a man of great faith and very proud of his Irish heritage.  He was kind, funny, loyal and generous beyond compare.  He was an amazing father, husband, neighbor, brother and friend.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street (off Central St.), Hingham.  A celebration of life will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM Monday prior to the 10 AM funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Church, Hingham. Burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
