Patrick F. “Paddy” Preston of Braintree, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on January 9, 2025 at the age of 88.
Paddy, born in County Sligo, grew up in Ireland and moved to the US in 1958. He married the love of his life, Maggie, in 1962, and together, they raised their large family in Dorchester. A hardworking man, Paddy worked as a union painter and laborer for many years and then worked in various positions for UMass Boston for 44 years, retiring at age 81. He enjoyed watching professional sports including the Sligo Rovers, Chelsea (Premier League Soccer), the Boston Bruins, and the Red Sox, listening to Irish music, attending family cookouts, and spending time at Castle Island. Frequent trips to Ireland to visit his daughter were cherished moments. Most of all, Paddy loved spending time with his family.
The son of the late Eugene "Gene" and Julia (Fitzpatrick) Preston, Paddy was the husband of the late Margaret M. "Maggie" (Fraser) Preston. He was the loving father of Brian Preston of Braintree; Lisa and Karl Prenderville of Dublin, Ireland and their children James and Sara; Tom and Sandra Preston of Braintree, and their children Thomas “TJ”, Anthony, and Alexandria; Patrick and Eileen Preston of East Falmouth, and their children Virginia and Patrick; Kelly-Anne and Jeff Ferreira of East Bridgewater, and their children Margaret and Jack; Glen and Patricia Preston of Nashua, NH, and their children Glen Michael, Morgan, Jared and Aiden; Patricia Preston of Braintree and children Edmund, Robert, and Fraser; and Tracey and Tristan Egan of Weymouth, and their children Liam, Julia, and Séamus. Paddy is also survived by his brother Joseph “Joe” Preston of Dedham. He was predeceased by his siblings David Preston, Bertie Preston, and Mary Josephine "Jo" O’Toole. Additionally, he is survived by scores of nieces and nephews and their children.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 1/15/2025 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Thursday 1/16/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Clare’s Church, Braintree at 10 AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
