Patricia Virginia Macedo

Patricia Virginia Macedo, 92, formerly of Hingham, passed away on September 27 at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate, where she had been a resident for several years.

The family would like to share a special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Life Care Center for the kindness and thoughtfulness they gave to Patricia during her stay with them.

Patricia was the loving daughter of Francis M. and Alice F. McCloskey of Boston.  She was also the devoted wife of Dennis Macedo prior to his passing in 2010, after a marriage of over sixty years.  Patricia was mother to three loving sons, Michael F. (who passed in 2016), Dennis, and Joe and an adoring grandmother to three children, Nycole, Amanda and Chris Macedo.  She also leaves behind Carol Macedo and Corinne Walsh, her caring and thoughtful daughter in law and life partner to Mike Macedo, respectively.

Patricia also enjoyed a long and successful career at the Quincy Unemployment Office where she rose to the position of Mediator and was recognized for excellent execution of her responsibilities. Among the earliest recipients of coronary bypass surgery over 40 years ago Pat showed remarkable and graceful resilience in her struggle with a disease that, at the time, was generally understood to be a premature death sentence. She never faltered in her pioneering efforts to enroll in clinical trials, many of which resulted in some of the common drug treatments used to lower cholesterol today. Kiki, as Pat was affectionately known to her grandchildren, possessed a gentle wisdom and unending strength that has been an inspiration to all who have had the good fortune to know her during her many and rewarding years. Whether ill or well, Pat never failed to demonstrate to family, friends, neighbors and coworkers her strength of character and courage under all circumstances.  She is going to be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. Hingham 12:30 – 2 on Wednesday October 5, with a funeral home service to follow at 2. Burial will be take place at St. Pauls Cemetery, Hingham at 3.
