Patricia Cecelia Murphy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the age of 91. Pat had been a long term care resident of the JML Care Center in Falmouth, MA. Formerly she lived for many years at Unquity House in Milton, MA. She was the youngest of her generation, all 10 of her older siblings having predeceased her. Their parents were the late Rose A. Murphy and Joseph G Murphy. Her late siblings were Joseph A, of Centerville, MA, Bernard G, of Winthrop, MA, Dorothea T. Gordon, of Whitman, MA, Elizabeth F. Alker of Montreal, Canada, Richard P. of Roxbury, MA, Albert I, of Beltsville, Maryland, Thomas J. of Roxbury, MA, Sr Joseph Richard of Bellmore, NY, Ronald J, of Coatesville, PA, Rosemary A. Igoe of Arlington, MA. Pat also left many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graduate of the first class, 1954, of Laboure Nursing School in Dorchester, Pat worked many years as a staff nurse, at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Mass General Hospital. She worked for the Red Cross and then worked as a school nurse at Fenn School in Concord, MA and the American Academy in Leysin Switzerland.
After retiring, she kept busy volunteering at the Celebrity Series of Boston. She loved live music, especially classical, and hardly ever missed trekking into Boston to concerts at Jordan Hall to support the New England Conservatory of Music. She rarely missed a concert at Symphony Hall and was an avid supporter of the Arts, the Catholic TV Channel and NPR. She loved to travel and ventured all over Europe, Ireland, Bermuda and much of the US. She was very active in the lives of her many nieces and nephews and made many, many friends from all of her travels. She delighted in writing notes to keep in touch with her friends and equally loved receiving cards from them too.
Patricia was a devout Catholic and considered St. Gregory’s her home parish. We will all miss her.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Pat’s name to any charity of your choice. Thank you for being a part of her life.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday May 28th from 8:00-9:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. The Funeral Mass will be held in ST. GREGORY’S DORCHESTER, at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree will immediately follow. See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences.
