Parker L. Monroe Ii

Monroe, Parker Lewis II – Hingham July 13, 1928 – June 24, 2016.

Born Providence, RI. St. Dunstan’s School, Moses Brown ’46, Amherst College ’50. He attended Harvard Law School, but chose to enlist in the army rather than enter law.  As he wrote in a Moses Brown alumni publication, “At this time I made one of the few truly enlightened moves of my lifetime. On June 28 1953 I married Dorothy Diane Conrad.”  Employed by First Boston Corporation from 1954 – 1984, he retired as a Managing Director. Trusteeships included University Hospital, various Hingham committees, St. John’s Vestry, and the Old South Meeting House, which he was told looked good in obits. Mayor of the Hingham Bathing Beach, accomplished wood-worker, singer, painter, gardener, chef and pumpkin-carver, he especially loved classical music, good food, wine and stories around the dining room table.

Survived by wife Dorothy Monroe of Hingham, MA, Melissa Monroe and Joel Rotenberg of NYC, Parker E. Monroe II and Teresa Darragh of Oakland, CA, Rebecca Monroe of NYC and granddaughter Mercedes Jackson of CA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations can be made to Moses Brown, Amherst College or the Harvard Musical Association. “I may not have fulfilled all my potential, but there’s not a great deal I would change if I could.”
