Pamela Manning-Ashmanskas

Manning-Ashmanskas, Pamela of Quincy, passed away after a long and courageous battle with Diamond Blackfan Anemia and Leukemia on June 19, 2017.

Pamela was a lifelong Quincy resident. She attended Quincy Public Schools, Deland, FL Schools and college. At the age of 2, she was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia and amazed family, friends and the medical community. Over her lifetime she had received over 200 blood transfusions and had doctors from around the world care for her. Pamela was the oldest Diamond Blackfan Anemia patient in the USA. She loved sea shells, the sun and the beach. She especially loved Wollaston Beach and Lauderdale By The Sea. Her love for “whimsical stuff” was admired, while her sense of humor and knowledge of politics, holistic health and world was amazing.  In January 2017, she was diagnosed with Leukemia with little chance for another birthday. Her final special memories were the American flag being raised on the roof at Mellon Brae Condominiums in Wollaston on Memorial Day and a surprise visit from a special friend, Doctor Carlos Sierra, who flew up overnight in June 2017 for a stay at the Custom House in Boston and provided Pamela with medical and spiritual care, it was her most recent “great time”. Growing up she enjoyed the Old Wolly Theatre, Brigham’s, Clam Box, swimming and laughing with the thousands of people she came in contact with. Pamela was a very special person and all who met and knew her attest to that. She had a very special way with people of all races and lifestyles. Not a bad bone was found in her body, if you lost something she would help anyone until the item was found – no matter the length of time. She will be remembered by her saying “Go big or go out” and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Beloved wife to David Ashmanskas of Quincy for 26 years. Dear daughter to Marjorie Clay of OOB, Maine. Cherished sister to Julie Manning of Quincy and a loving aunt to Jade, who she helped nurture and provide guidance for many years. Adored sister-in-law to Joan Troup of Canton, Thomas Ashmanskas of Wollaston, Judy Koelsch of Hingham, Peter Ashe of Hanson, and Albert Ashmanskas of PA.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews and her friends, Marlena, Donna, and Mary who were constant companions and caretakers.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 8:30-9:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
