Olive Gertrude "Ollie" (James) Connolly

Olive Gertrude “Ollie” (James) Connolly, of Weymouth, formerly of Hingham, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, with family by her side. She was 101. 

Ollie was born in Boston on July 17, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Story) James. She was raised in Charlestown and went on to live a full life in Charlestown, Hull, and Fort Myers, Florida. In her younger years, she welded ships during World War II, then went on to manage a large household, work as a phone operator, and fulfill other important occupations. In retirement, she volunteered for many years at HOPE Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida. She excelled at golf, hitting a hole-in-one in her 80s, and enjoyed bingo, swimming, happy hour, and making people laugh. Ollie was full of grit and had a great smile that flashed often. She made the most of every day and her independent spirit and great sense of humor has left a mark on all who’ve known her.

Ollie was the beloved wife of the late James Connolly. She was the devoted mother of Carol J. Whelan and her husband Edward of Hingham, Mary Olson and her late husband Robert of California, the late Patricia Wright of Hingham, the late James Connolly Jr. of New York, Laraine Finneran and her husband Michael of Hingham, and Susan Connolly of Florida. Ollie was the loving grandmother of eleven and the great grandmother of eighteen. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 9-11 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. 

Her funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 11 AM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. 

Services will conclude with interment in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.
