Welliver, Norval “Obie” of Quincy June 8, 2008. Son of Samuel and Rose Welliver. Beloved husband of 53 years to the late Virginia A. “Jinny” Welliver. Devoted father of Michael Mary and her husband Charles Cowan of Plymouth, Kathleen Norval and her husband David DiBona of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Matthew N. Cobb and his wife Shannon, Jason Cobb, David “Andy” DiBona and his wife Teresa, and Amy N. DiBona. Dear great grandfather of Haley, Madelyn, and Samantha Cobb, and Gianna DiBona. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, Norval served on board the USS Badger (DDL-126) which was a WWI destroyer. This ship was used as a convoy escort ship to European-African-Middle Eastern ports. Norval “Obie” retired from Hertz-Penski Trucking Co. as a truck mechanic 23 years ago. He was a loving caregiver to his wife Jinny for many years. Obie received the Houghs Neck Community Council Distinguished Senior Citizen Award on Oct. 26, 2003. Obie loved gardening, birds, reading and listening to music. His passion was for sailing and being at the beach. Mr. Welliver had his boat ready for the water again this year. He enjoyed socializing with his neighbors, friends and loved his family dearly. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Friday at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours Thursday 4 – 8 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Welliver may be made to Hough’s Neck Community Council Scholarship Fund, c/o Chairman David DiBona, 45 Turner St., Quincy, MA 02169.
