Norman J. Walsh

Walsh, Norman J. of Quincy, passed away August 30, 2017, at the age of 94.

Born in Boston in 1922, Norman was a longtime resident of Quincy. He courageously served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a recipient of both a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. A graduate of the Harvard class of 1946 he began his career working in municipal government as City Manager of Worcester. After holding the same position in the City of Quincy, he accepted a position as a Loan Officer at Shawmut Bank. Several years later he became a Vice President at the newly incorporated City Bank. He left City Bank in 1978 and became a Loan and Liquidation Officer for the Small Business Administration to assist businesses that were devastated as a result of the Blizzard of ’78. Norman was an avid reader, loved Boston sports, his Irish Heritage and especially dining out with friends and family. He loved to laugh and share the company of others. He also enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles and watching vintage TV series. However, his greatest joy and love were his grandchildren, Kate and Colin. Along with being a devout Catholic, he was a member of the Disabled Americans Veterans and the Treasurer of Harvard Club of Quincy for over 30 years. Norman will be dearly missed. He was loved by all who had the opportunity of knowing and spending time with him and who enjoyed the warm pleasure of his friendship.

Son of the late Patrick and Mabel (Kaesmann) Walsh. Devoted husband to the late Dorothy A. Rooney. Loving father to Norman Walsh and his wife Patricia of Milton. Beloved “Grampie” to Katharine A. Vaughan (Walsh) and her husband Chris of Milton and Colin M. Walsh of Melrose.
