She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Edgar Carlson. They were married in the Army Chapel at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on Valentine’s Day in 1951. Norma and Ed spent at total of more than 66 happy and wonderful years together.

Norma was a dedicated employee of the Braintree Public Schools for many years. She worked with students with special needs and learning disabilities and had a very special affinity and connection with them. She loved to travel and visited many countries around the world. Norma was a longtime and avid fan of the Boston Bruins.

She was an extraordinary mother to her children: Richard Carlson and his wife, Janet, of Hopkinton; David Carlson and his wife, Dy, of Liege, Belgium; Peter Carlson and his wife, Deborah, of Braintree; and Cynthia Carlson and her boyfriend, Christopher Cote, of Plymouth. Norma was a loving “Nana” to her beloved grandchildren: the late Erik, Erika, Elise, Jeffrey, Andrew and Dylan Carlson. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and was a devoted aunt to them.

She is survived by her sister, Lorrayne Paolucci of Quincy, and her brother, Robert Perry of Cocoa, FL. She was also the sister of the late Denise Austin of Abington and the late Janet Blanchard of Kingston.

A private celebration of her life will be held for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norma’s name to the Best Buddies of Massachusetts Foundation  at www.bestbuddiesmassachusetts.org.
