DeLuze, Nora L. (Joseph) of Hingham, died October 1, 2022.
Nora was the wife of the late David DeLuze and the wonderful loving mother of Eleanor Dunham, Washington DC, Kenneth DeLuze Sr., Wareham MA, the late David DeLuze Jr., Mary Fernandes Wareham MA, John DeLuze Greenville NC, and William DeLuze Hingham MA.
Nora Laura DeLuze was born November 9, 1919, in Rochester, MA. Only child to Frank and Mary Joseph and spent her childhood years living on the Cape Verde Island of Brava. She returned to the United States to live with her Aunt in Providence, RI during her early adult years where she met and fell in love with husband David DeLuze. They married shortly after moving to Hingham, MA in the nineteen forties to raise their family.
Nora, while continuing to raise her own family, provided domestic and care giving services to several Hingham families for many years. She was an exceptionally compassionate caring woman able to perform lovingly the many challenging tasks of raising a family and work selflessly. Remarkably during limited time for herself she was able to find time for her passions; sewing, going dancing, listening to music, and wearing the latest classy clothing fashions, most designed and made by her. She often as a talented skilled seamstress found time to design and make clothing for family and friends.
In addition to being a supportive wife and devoted mother, Nora was very active in the South Shore, and Hingham and Cape Verdean community, a member of the South Shore Citizens Club, NAACP and Hingham Senior Center where she served as a volunteer for many years. Nora spoke Creole and graciously helped in translating for non-english speaking Cape Verdean families.
During her retirement years, she remained passionate about continuing to serve and connected with family, close friends and all her grand and great grandchildren. Expecting everyone to stay together and supportive of each other.
Nora was loved by her family and will be deeply missed by her daughter-in-laws, Erma, Swanza, Michelle, Son-in-law Willie Dunham and four generations of her loving grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., III, Mary, Donna, Louis, Darlene, William, Michelle, Roxanne, Tremain, Christy, Xenia, Michael, Great: Nicole, Justin, Allana, Ashley, Harold III, Brittney, Benjamin, Katilyn, Noah, Nicholas, Jordyn, Amelia, Mason, Kayla, Great great: Devon, Ayla, Eliana, and Great great great: Luna and Harold IV and several nieces and nephews.
Nora will be missed by many friends, especially the Ward Street Crew and community. While Nora slept, October 1, God called home one of his special Angels.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 1-5 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in High Street Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Paul K. Fernandes Foundation, 53 Arlington Road, Wareham, MA 02571.
