Hayes, Nora Joan (Johnston), on April 26, 2010 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Johanna Clifford Johnston of Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland and Thomas Johnston of Kilorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland; wife of the late John Stephen Hayes, M.D.; sister of the late Mary Johnston, Thomas Johnston, Dorothy Connolly, and John Johnston. Survived by her sisters: Jane Lochrie, Margaret Mucci, and Joan Pasquinelli. Also survived by her children: Fr. Stephen Domenic Hayes, O.P.; Michael T. Hayes, M.D. and his wife Laurie; Gerard B. Hayes, M.D. and his wife Kerry; Julie Hayes; Mary Whinery and her husband Bruce; Ann Carroll and her husband Robert; Greg Hayes and his wife Linda; Rosanne Clark and her husband Tim; 24 grandchildren and 28 nieces and nephews. Nora was born on December 18, 1921 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She was raised in St. Augustine’s Parish in South Boston. She graduated from Carney Hospital Nursing School in 1944 and served as Head Nurse on a surgical floor at Carney Hospital until 1953. She was married in 1952 to John Stephen Hayes, M.D. and was a faithful Communicant of St. Ann Parish in Wollaston, MA since 1954. Nora was compassionate and loving, frequently hosted gatherings for her extensive family and was a true inspiration by her strength and unfailing faith. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Friday, April 30, 2010 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann Parish, 757 Hancock St., Wollaston at 11 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dominican Fathers c/o The Dominican Foundation, 141 E. 65th St., N.Y., NY 10065 or to St. Ann’s Parish, 757 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02170.
