Nicholas J. Albanese

Nicholas Albanese, age 94, traveled peacefully to heaven on Saturday evening January 23 from home where he was surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 23, 1921, Nick grew up during tough times in South Boston with Italian immigrant parents, worked as a precision sheet metal worker for his first career, and served as a Marine in WWII. Still ambitious in his 40’s, Nick earned his Master of Education degree. Nick loved kids and taught Sheet Metal trade in several Voc-Tech High Schools for 20 years, including his own Southie High, until his retirement in 1986.

Nick called Quincy home for 53 years where he raised his family on Davis Street. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Quincy MA.

Nick’s proudest accomplishment, second only to his beloved family, was his service in World War II. He entered the Marine Corps and served as rifle instructor at Parris Island, SC, because he was an incredibly talented sharp shooter. He boldly requested transfer to combat and courageously fought with the Sixth Marine Division in the the fierce 3-month battle on Okinawa Island. Nick’s unwavering faith in God and devotion to the Blessed Mother continued during his service and throughout his long life. His war experiences gave him a strong and grateful spirit for all his days.

Nick is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Beverly, and his four adoring daughters, Mary Kay (James) McIntyre of Winchester, Karen Albanese (Joe Vogel) of Quincy, Jeannie (Chris) deMurias of Cohasset, Ann (Doug) Ell of Tewksbury. The light of Nick’s life were his ten grandchildren, Theresa Vogel and Brian Daly, Nick, James, Anna and Maria McIntyre, Eric and Nathan Ell, Alexander and Audrey deMurias. Nick was loved by many dear nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, John and Anthony Albanese.
