Ned V. Mannai – November 24th 2007. He passed away surrounded by his loving family. Ned was born on April 20, 1932 and was 75. Born and raised in Quincy, Ned was a graduate of Quincy High School and had a fondness for history. He was a proud member of the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving on the USS destroyer Newman K. Perry. He started his insurance career in 1955 with Hartford Insurance and then C.N.A. where he successfully managed and grew several branch offices along the east coast. He was the founder and CEO of XS Brokers Insurance Agency in Quincy, an insurance wholesaler, which he started in 1978. He was also the founding member of the New England Surplus Lines Association (NESLA). Ned was a loving husband, father and friend. For those who had the good fortune of meeting him, he had the unending ability to patiently listen to people. He deeply cared about everyone he met, and he had a larger than life personality. An avid golfer, Ned enjoyed playing courses on Cape Cod and in Scottsdale, Arizona where he maintained vacation homes. Ned was also a skilled woodcarver whose decorative pieces are prized by many of his friends and family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Walsh) Mannai. He also leaves five children: Frederick Mannai of Quincy, David Mannai of Harrisburg, PA, Kathleen Reilly of Fall River, Michael Mannai of Carlyle, PA, Paula Reardon of Quincy and his stepson, Adam Devine, of Hingham. Ned was the brother of Italo Mannai of Pembroke and the late Anthony Mannai and Renato Mannai. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 4-8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street in Hingham. Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Burial in Hingham Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ned’s memory to Quincy High School Scholarship Fund, Quincy High School, Coddington St., Quincy, MA 02169.
