Myriam Powers

Myriam ‘Mimi’ Paola Sullivan Powers, long time resident of Milton, MA. born Fort Niagra, New York on August 4, 1922 died Quincy, MA. on St. Patrick’s Day 2015

During the early years of her life, Mimi lived on several military bases throughout the United States including Fort Niagra, Fort Adams in Rhode Island as well as in the then Territory of Hawaii. Her Dad, Charles Sullivan was an Army officer during WWI in Europe where he met and married Marie Louise Rodde in Lyons, France.

After her Dad’s military service ended, the Sullivan Family moved to Boston. Mimi attended Girls’ Latin School and graduated with recognition. Mimi, fluent in French as well as learned in Latin, was accepted to Duke University. Unfortunately the beginning of WWII interrupted that plan. Around that time she attended Business School in subsequentially, became a full-time employee of the US Air Force. It is our understanding that Mimi was employed by the US Air Force for about 50 years with notable service at Hanscom Air Force Base for the latter part of her business career.

In 1960, she married Edgar Powers, a long time resident of Milton, where they resided their whole life together in a home built by his Dad during the 1920’s. Mimi was active in Republican politics attending state and local events on a regularly basis, as well as providing much advice and direction at all such events. Reportedly, she attended Milton Town meetings for many years. In addition, Mimi was a devout Roman Catholic, and while she never had children, she treated her sister’s children like her own.

Mimi and Ed had a cottage along the New Hampshire coastline on Hampton Beach for many years. They loved the beaches in New Hampshire, Florida, South Carolina and Bermuda. Mimi was a good Republican, devout Catholic and good family person.

She is survived by her Texan family members including her niece Marie Lytle and husband Bill, her nephews Jack Muecke and Bryan Muecke, and also many grand nieces and nephews who are fiercely proud of their Boston/New England heritage. Also she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edgar Powers, her father Charles Sullivan, her mother, Marie Louise Sullivan, her sister Marie Louise Muecke and husband Jack Muecke. Thanks to all for assisting our family with Mimi and Ed in their later years, but special thanks to The Monahan Family (Alice, Kathy, Alice and Jack) of Milton as well as the staff at Atria Marina Place.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 9 AM Monday, March 23, 2015. Burial will take place in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
