Myles McCabe, a former Marketing Manager for the Foxboro Company and retired Navy Commander died on April 5, 2017.
Myles was born in Boston and raised in Boston and Quincy. He met his wife of 54 years in their freshman year at Archbishop Williams High School, where they were members of the first graduating class of 1953. Their five children all graduated from Archies. Myles was extremely dedicated to Archies for over 50 years and served on multiple boards including the first 60th Anniversary Celebration. He was the first chairman of the extremely successful fundraiser “Archies Place”. He was a 1957 graduate of Boston College with a degree in Physics. He was a lifelong member of the class of ’57 Board of Directors which planned annual class and anniversary functions. After graduating he spent 4 years on active duty as a Navy Destroyer Officer and then spent a total of 26 years active in reserve in the Navy before retiring with a rank of Commander. Commander McCabe was a member of the Wardroom Club of Boston as well as a long time member and Past President of the South Shore Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. A 40 year member of the St. Paul Hingham Choir, he and his wife devoted their later years to their 13 grandchildren. He was known to his grandchildren as “Poppy”.
He is survived by his wife Anne, 5 children: Myles McCabe, Jr. of Marshfield, Mark and Belaine McCabe of Scituate, Katie and William Burchill of Walpole, Melissa and John Barry of Hanover and Matthew and Kate McCabe of Marshfield. He also leaves his sister Mary, formerly of Easton. He and his wife spent each Spring at Vero Beach, enjoyed ocean cruises as well as their many military “space A” flights.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Committal service with U.S. Navy Honors at MA National Cemetery, Bourne Monday at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Myles may be made to Mass General Hospital c/o Development Office, Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540 Boston MA 02114.
