Monsignor Peter T. Martocchio

Boston – Reverend Monsignor Peter T. Martocchio, 93, passed away peacefully February 26th, 2023, at the Regina Cleri Residence – Archdiocese of Boston.

He was born December 17, 1929, in Watertown, the beloved son of the late John and Katherine (Feeney) Martocchio.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two loving sisters, Catherine Grimes (Martocchio) and most recently Mary-Flanagan O’Brien (Martocchio).  He is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews; Larry (Paula) Grimes, the late Peggy (Paul) Goodhue, Billy Grimes and (Susan Hill), Patty (Charlie) Shachat, Kathy (Buzz) Busby, John (Peg) Grimes, Brenda Barillot, Dennis (Ann) Flanagan), P.J. (Doris) Flanagan, Chris Flanagan and (Mary Barbuto) and many great nieces and nephews.

“Fr. Peter” grew up in Weymouth, and attended Boston College and dedicated his life to his vocation. He was ordained at the St. John’s Seminary, of Brighton in 1957. He served at the following parishes:  St. John the Evangelist of Chelmsford, St. Edwards Church of Brockton, Our Lady of Good Counsel of Quincy and ultimately welcomed back to his hometown of Weymouth in 1984, with the honor of being the Pastor of Immaculate Conception. He made numerous longtime friendships with many of his parishioners and was widely respected and loved by all.

As the Patriarch of our family, we considered Fr. Peter to be a mentor and role model in all our lives.  He was always so supportive to the Grimes/Flanagan families.  He cherished family time and is fondly remembered for hosting many annual family/friends’ summer and holiday parties in Hull.

He will be remembered as an exceptional and dedicated Priest/Monsignor, who was so kind, caring and had a great sense of humor.  Over the years, he enjoyed his free time shared with his close priesthood friends. He loved reading, golfing, skiing, daily walks and traveling to his ancestral homelands of Italy and Ireland, along with Cape Cod.

In 2001, he retired as Pastor of the Immaculate Conception Parish, and subsequently served at St. Jerome Parish, and later joined his brethren at the Regina Cleri Residence, in 2013. As a family, we were all comforted by the exceptional care he received from the nurses and staff, and he often commented about how fond he was of them all.

A life well-lived and now he is at peace!
