Michael J. “Mike” Lozan, passed away unexpectedly, on September 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and adventure. He was 82.
Son of the late George and Georgia Lozan, he was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1942. Mike's journey began in the Air Force, where he served in Biloxi MS and Thule, Greenland from 1962 to 1966, an experience that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that would last a lifetime. After his service, Mike pursued his passion for technology, earning a certificate from the RCA Institute. This education paved the way for a distinguished and long career as an Electrical Engineer at Teradyne, where his expertise and dedication were integral to the company's success. His professional achievements were matched by his commitment to his colleagues, with whom he formed lasting bonds.
Outside of his professional life, Mike was a dedicated father, never missing an opportunity to support his daughters, whether that meant attending every dance recital or embarking on memorable family adventures including evacuating out of the Everglades during Hurricane Andrew. He took great pride in his daughters’ accomplishments, especially seeing them both achieve their master’s degrees, a milestone he admired greatly.
His love for his family was paralleled by his passion for running. Starting in his late 30s, Mike became an avid runner, earning multiple awards, medals, and accolades for his athletic accomplishments. His tenacity and joy for the sport led him to become a member of The Colonial Road Runners and the New England 65+ Running Club, as well as a Boston Marathon Volunteer for 21 years. Gerry Owen and many other members of these clubs became Michael’s close friends. Mike was proud of completing 17 races in his 40’s, 62 races in his 50’s, 442 in his 60’s and 578 in his 70’s, and completing his 500th fun run at the age of 82.
Mike's adventurous spirit extended beyond the running track. He had a close relationship with his sister, Bev and brother in law Max, with whom he shared many of life's milestones including the total eclipse of the Sun in April, 2024. He was an avid traveler, who loved a road trip. In 1997, Mike, Arianne and Shonna spent five weeks crisscrossing the USA in their beloved minivan. In addition he visited all 50 states, culminating by running a half marathon in Alaska. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling with Rhode Scholars and discovering Northern Vermont with Bev and Max and traveling many miles of Vermont’s Rail Trails on his trusty eBike.
He is survived by his two daughters, Arianne Lozan and her partner Andrew Price of Weymouth and Shonna Lozan of Worcester. He was a loving brother to Beverly Bassett and her husband Max of Vermont. Predeceased by brothers Robert “Boggie” Bogivitz and Robert G Lozan. Also survived by Arianne and Shonna’s mother, Kathleen Heger-Rivera and her husband Perry Rivera.
