Michael J. Southerland of El Dorado Hills, CA, formerly of Hull, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was 55.
He was born in Quincy to Suzanne (Pucci) White and John Southerland and raised in Hull. As a kid, Mike started work early and had a paper route with the Patriot Ledger. He attended Hull High School and was a proud member of the Hull Marching Pirates, as a trumpeter. After graduating from Hull High School, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force. He spent 4 years at the Travis Air Force Base in CA. After serving, he settled in Sacramento, and married his wife, Dawn. He then attended the University of Phoenix, earning his Bachelor’s in Business Management. That same year he had his first child, thus beginning what he considered his brightest accomplishment in life; his children, Marisa and Nicholas. Mike had several professions in the medical field as a manager and consultant but if you asked him, he was a “Medical Professional”.
Mike was an avid sports fan, especially of his home New England/Boston teams. In his spare time, he liked to golf and was a self-proclaimed “foodie”. He loved to go out to dinner and take pictures of his meals to show his friends and family. He was very sociable and loved telling stories. Mike’s sensitivity and personable nature made for a calming presence. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Devoted father of Marisa and Nicholas Southerland of El Dorado Hills, CA. Beloved son of Suzanne White and her husband William Leary of Hull. Longtime companion of Nanette Hodge of Cameron Park, CA. Loving brother of Lisa O’Connor and her husband Brian of Shrewsbury, and Kerry Donato and her husband Fabrizio of Hull. Also survived by his nieces: Kristin O’Connor of Shrewsbury, Alyssa and Giuliana Donato of Hull and his nephew, Kyle O’Connor of Shrewsbury.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday, August 13, from 2-5 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. At the family’s request, please consider dressing casual for the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to a charity of your choice.
