Michael J. Kenney

Michael J. Kenney, known affectionately as Papa K, passed away at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on October 1, 2024. His unexpected illness and passing have left a deep void in the hearts of his loved ones, all of whom enjoyed his vibrant spirit and loving nature.

Michael dedicated 32 years of his life to the Railroad as a car inspector, exemplifying a strong work ethic and commitment to his profession and coworkers. He found great joy in his leisure activities, particularly his time spent with family and friends. As a long-time member and past commodore of Gull Point Yacht Club, Michael took pride in enforcing the rules while enjoying the camaraderie of neighbors at his beloved community beach.

Sports were a central aspect of Michael's life. An avid tennis player and past president of Quincy Tennis Club, he claimed championship titles in men's doubles in 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2001, underscoring his competitive spirit. His natural athleticism extended beyond tennis; he excelled in ping pong, and also enjoyed golf among other sports. His playful nature shone when sharing a game of SORRY with his grandchildren, with whom he delighted in spending quality time.

Michael was a devoted family man, sharing 18 wonderful years with his life partner, Nancy Loubier. Together, they split their time between their home in Quincy, particularly enjoying summers at Rock Island Cove, and the warmth of Pompano Beach, Florida during the winter months.

Maura was his favorite daughter and her late brother, Mike, was his favorite son, which made them laugh as they were his only kids. Nancy and Michael were one in a million, both individually and especially together. He and Nancy would hang out with all of Maura's neighborhood friends and all of their kids. They are affectionately known as Papa K and Nee by all.

He loved taking his grandchildren, Finn, Allison, and Paige McKenna, tubing and skiing, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. Michael remained deeply connected with them, often video calling to check in, ensuring they always felt his presence and love. He was most proud of being an attentive grandparent, known for his playful spirit and compassion.

In addition to his own children, daughter Maura Kenney McKenna and her husband Michael McKenna, and late son Michael P. Kenney, Michael was adored by his extensive family. He leaves behind his siblings: Mary (John) Sullivan, late Peter (Sue) Kenney, Pat (John) McCarthy, Frank (Jeanne Gallagher) Kenney, Philip (Pat) Kenney, and Judy (late Billy) Cotter. He also treasured countless nieces and nephews who were all touched by his kind heart and unforgettable sense of humor.

Michael’s love extended to animals, sharing his home with his new puppy, Simmy. He was known for his love of telling corny jokes, loved to scare people, especially on Halloween, and sharing fun moments by dancing with family at weddings. He had an infectious enthusiasm for life that drew people to him. His competitive edge made for spirited family games, but whether winning or losing, he remained a beloved figure to all who knew him.

A memorial celebration for Michael will take place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM at The Waterclub at Marina Bay, located at 319 Victory Rd, Quincy, MA. All are encouraged to attend this gathering so that family and friends can honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the impact he had on their lives. Michael was more than just a family member; he was a true legend, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In the perfectly memorable words of Michael... "If I don't see you sooner, I'll see you later"
