Michael F. Freeman

Freeman, Michael F. of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester died at home August 4, 2015 at the age of 66. He was surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with brain cancer.  He was a devoted and loving father to Michelle S. Gouthro and her husband Thomas of Weymouth. “World’s Best Papa” to Keegan and Ryan Gouthro. Longtime love and husband of Virginia “Ginger” (Likas) Freeman.   Beloved son of Theresa (Morrill) Freeman of Roslindale, and the late Michael “Fran” Freeman. Adored brother of Veronica “Ronnie” Hannon and her husband Edward “Ed” Hannon of West Roxbury. Dear friend and father figure to Fabiano Bueno of South Boston.

He was born in Boston and attended Boston College High School. He was an avid music fan and played drums in his teens and early 20’s for the band “The Rising Sons.”  Michael worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years as a mail carrier in Boston. He was a wonderful family man who lived for spending time with and spoiling his grandsons. His favorite thing to do was attend their “Rookie League” baseball games where he was a permanent fixture on the bench. He was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumor in February of 2013 and fought bravely for 2 1/2 years. He never lost his sense of humor or strength, and was affectionately referred to by many who knew him as “Big Mike.” He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday from 5 – 7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home in North Weymouth at 40 Sea Street. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth, at 10 AM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society, 55 Chapel Street, Suite, 200 Newton, MA 02458
