Michael C. Gillen Jr, (Ret. WPD), 72, of Weymouth past away at his home Sunday, February 15, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved husband of 30 years to Judy (Cochran) Gillen of Weymouth. Son of the late Michael and Marguerite (Lennon) Gillen. Loving father of Kim Robles and her husband Marcelino of Lisbon, NH, David Gillen and his wife Melanie of Mount Horeb, WI, Andrea Gillen of Canton and Ashley Owen and her husband James of Middleboro the late Brian Gillen. Cherished grandfather of Justin MacInnis, Shaun MacInnis, Amanda Best, Kayla Gillen, Regina Gillen, Harry Peterson and four great grand children. Dear brother of Mary Lee Crocker and her husband Richard of Oak Island, NC. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at the Weymouth Naval Air Station and was honorably discharged in 1965. Shortly after the Navy, Michael worked at the Quincy Shipyard as an Electrician for 8 years. Michael joined the Weymouth Police Department in 1976 and retired after 28 years of service and later became a part time employer of the Plymouth County Sheriffs Department. He was a long time member of the Weymouth Elks and the Weymouth Eagles. Michael was a practical joker who loved to make people laugh and have fun. His passion was boating, fishing, riding his motorcycle and vacationing with his family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30 AM Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Multiple Myeloma Program c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
