Matthew F. Walsh

Matt Walsh of Dublin, Ireland passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024, in Hingham, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family. 

Matt is now reunited in Christ with his beloved wife Teresa, his parents James and Jane Walsh, his sisters Marie Willis and Catherine Salmon and his brother James Walsh. He is survived by his sister Jeanne Kelly, his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Johanna, his son Mark and daughter-in-law Bridget, his daughter Michele, his three grandchildren Andrew, David and Caroline, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, and a fan base of many thousands in Ireland, the U.K. and the U.S. 

Born in Dublin on September 12, 1935, Matt lived for several years in Massachusetts before returning home to Ireland to raise his family and pursue a long and accomplished career as a photojournalist with the Irish Independent Newspaper group. Matt returned to Massachusetts in 2022 following the death of Teresa to spend his final years close to his family, in the loving care of his daughter Michele and the companionship of his new best friend Goldie, a “rascal” retriever. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Church, in Hingham at 12 Noon on July 8, 2024. A reception will follow at the Square Cafe. 

No flowers please. The family asks that any donations in his memory be directed to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Charitable Fund at www.NVNA.org.
