Mats E. Viggh

Viggh, Mats E. of Hingham, formerly of Topsfield, died February 12, 2014.

Beloved husband of Anita Prollius Viggh of Hingham. Loving father of Erik Otto Viggh and his wife Eva of Sjöbo, Sweden, Anna Birgitta Viggh of Washington, DC, and Herbert Erik Mattias Viggh and his wife Julia of Boxborough. Cherished grandfather of 3 grandchildren in Sweden and 4 grandchildren in the United States.

Mats was born in Sundsvall, Sweden. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden in 1955 and 1958. Mats worked for LM Ericsson before immigrating with his family to the United States in 1967. After four years at Control Data/TRG he started his own company, Transmission Lines Inc., where he conducted a number of design and development programs.  In 1977 Mats was employed by The Analytical Sciences Corp. (TASC) in Reading as a staff analyst in the Signal and Sensor Sciences Division. After retiring in 1991, he continued as a consultant for them for several years. 

Mats was an active member of the Rotary Club of Topsfield and Boxford, and served as president in 1979-80. He was a frequent contributing columnist for the local paper in Topsfield, the Tri-Town Transcript. Mats was also an avid swimmer and enjoyed photography, big band jazz music, and researching genealogy. Most of all Mats was dedicated to his work and his family. In 2005 Mats and his wife Anita moved from Topsfield to Hingham. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial visitation on Monday 1PM-2PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A service to honor Mats will be celebrated in the Pyne Funeral Home on Monday at 2PM.

The burial will be in Attmar, Sweden in the family grave later this year.
