Marybeth Michaelson, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on Monday November 21, 2022, after a long battle with breast cancer.
After graduating from Hingham High School, Marybeth went on to earn a business degree from Boston College. In the early 1990s, Marybeth sought a career change, graduating this time from UMASS Boston as valedictorian of her nursing class.
Marybeth went on to have a decades long year career as an emergency room nurse at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, also working at other facilities such as Children’s Hospital in Boston, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston & Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Ultimately, she ended her career in “happy nursing” as she called it – in the maternity ward at Boston Medical Center, working mostly in the nursery caring for the babies of Boston’s most vulnerable and under served populations. Marybeth also had the opportunity to do some travel nursing, in places like Martha’s Vineyard, Austin, Texas, and Tucson, Arizona.
Marybeth was a lover of country music & all Boston sports – especially the New England Patriots. The beach was her favorite place, but the holidays were her favorite time of year. Marybeth loved to travel, whether it was to search for a good deal or a good pizza, to attend a concert or sporting event, or just to spend time with those closest to her. To know her was to know her warm love of life & her immeasurable strength.
Marybeth was a devoted mother to her son Bryan Michaelson and his wife Meredith (Deacon) of Carver, her daughter Katie Welch (Michaelson) and her husband Brendan of South Boston, and her four-year old mini-goldendoodle, Max. But perhaps most importantly, she was a beloved “Nana” to Deacon Michaelson and Kennedy Welch, who really were the light of her life.
Marybeth is also survived by her sister Kathleen Gordon (Abreu) of Orleans; her brother David Abreu of Plymouth and his wife Nancy; her brother Tom Abreu of Norwood; her brother Paul Michael Abreu and his wife Allison of Norton; along with many nieces and nephews. She is joined in Heaven by her parents, Dolores and Manuel “Albert” Abreu of Hingham.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022 from 1-3pm in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St. ) HINGHAM.
