Mary Tollo

Mary Nicole Tollo, nee Devincentis, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2015 in Hingham, Massachusetts.

She was born on May 9, 1926 while her parents lived in Braintree, Massachusetts.  She had one sibling, John, who would remain her close companion and confidant throughout their lives.  Following high school graduation, Mary worked at the Boston offices of Stop & Shop where she met Salvatore Tollo, who would become her husband.  They lived upstairs from her parents for several years during which time Mary gave birth to her two children, Richard and Patricia. Shortly after Pat’s birth, the family moved to a new home in nearby Weymouth where Mary settled into the dual roles of mother and manager of the household.  Mary and Salvatore, and her brother and his wife Muriel, sponsored many happy get-togethers on holidays throughout the years, jointly raising eight appreciative offspring along the way.  Mary worked briefly as an aide at the nearby Elihu White Nursing Home but was generally content with her domestic duties.  Following Salvatore’s retirement, the couple traveled back and forth to Florida on numerous occasions, often taking their beloved AMTRAK trains, and to Virginia to visit with their son’s family, especially their grandson, Spencer Tollo. During their retirement years, Mary and Sal happily devoted much of their time in support of the local Lions Club, which became a great source of satisfaction in their lives.  After Salvatore passed away, Mary continued to make the trek to Virginia, making many acquaintances on the trains as she traveled.

Mary is very fondly remembered by all and is survived by her son and his wife, Stacie, and their son, and by her daughter who diligently cared for her during her final years.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).  The funeral home service will be Friday morning at 10AM also at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home. Following the funeral home service, burial will be at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Lions Club of Weymouth.
