Squire, Mary T. (Townsend), 89, of Weymouth, passed away February 1, 2023. Mary was born in Boston to the late Francis and Katherine Townsend. She was the sister of the late Francis Townsend and Anne Curley. Mary grew up in Dorchester, attending Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton, MA.
To know her was to love her. Her intellect, wit, charm and fun sense of humor were always coupled with her beautiful, heartfelt smile. Mary’s physical loveliness was accentuated by a melodious soft voice and beautiful penmanship. To her circle of friends and family, she was the quintessential movie critic as her favorite enjoyment was going to the movie theatre as well as enjoying Turner Classic TV and PBS at home. Her love for travel was enriched with her dedication to education and her interest in history as she traveled with her children all over the globe including Krueger National Park in South Africa, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the beach resorts in Durban on the Indian Ocean, England, Switzerland as well as many places in the US to enjoy family times together from Red Sox Games in Boston to Aggie Football games, to family trips to Disney World, Carmel, and San Francisco to name a few. Her family has fun and fond treasured memories of her singing in her lovely voice on long road trips and making big family breakfasts on Sunday mornings.
Mary worked 42 years at the US Postal Services in Boston and was an avid walker in the city. Mary’s greatest pride and joy was her beautiful family and her faith. She was married to her sweetheart, John, for 68 years, marrying on January 23, 1952. They raised 6 children in Somerville, MA before moving to North Weymouth in 1979. She always took pride in the uniqueness of each child, fostered by their educational and professional successes.
Beloved wife of the late John Squire. Mary is survived by her loving children: Christopher Squire (Cindy) of Woonsocket, RI; Jonathan Squire (Linda) of Louisville, KY; Eric Squire of Owensboro, KY; Maura Squire of Boston, MA; Deirdre Cunningham (Tom) of Malden, MA; and Patrick Squire (Anna) of Allen, TX. Her cherished grandchildren: Matthew (Heather MacLeod), Gregory, Victoria, Alexandra, Kevin (Elisha), Michael, Ryan, Jack, Brittany and the late lovingly remembered Johnny and Spencer. And blessed with her most recent great granddaughter, Amelia Grace.
