Mary T. Mclaughlin

Mary T. McLaughlin, a Quincy resident for over 30 years and formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2018 at the Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was 96.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Mulligan) McLaughlin. She attended St. Gregory High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. Following graduation, Mary continued her education at the Hickox Secretarial School in Boston.

Mary had a long and fulfilling career in the insurance industry. She worked for MetLife for over 50 years and served as a branch manager. Mary nicknamed MetLife; “Mother Met”. She enjoyed her work at Mother Met, so much that after she retired at the age of 65, she went back to work until she was 72.

Following her retirement, Mary spent much of her time traveling with her sister, cousins and close friends. They jokingly called themselves “The Golden Girls”. The Golden Girls enjoyed traveling to New Hampshire and visiting the Cape and Islands.

In her spare time, Mary enjoyed working with her hands. She was a resourceful person and liked to take care of her self and others. She was handy and always made an effort to learn how to fix something. Her home had ‘do it yourself’ books everywhere. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and making ceramics. An amateur photographer, Mary loved taking photos and then later in life, videos. She would make albums and DVD’s for people as gifts and enjoyed sharing hobby with the people around her.

Mary was a woman of great faith. She was devoted to the Church and lived her life in accordance with the virtues of faith, hope and love. She always shared her faith with those around her. When her nephews were young, she would bring them to visit the Mission Church frequently. Mary was devoted to prayer and prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on a regular basis.

The most important part of Mary’s life was her family and friends. She was devoted, sincere, caring, selfless, kind and loving. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for the people in her life. Even up to her final days, she was always asking how other people were doing. Mary will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.

Mary was the Cherished sister of Elizabeth McNally of Quincy. She was the devoted aunt of F. Michael McNally and his wife Claire of Quincy and the late Brian McNally and his surviving wife Nancy. Mary is also survived by many loving cousins, dear friends and caring neighbors.
