Mary Sheerin Kuhn Reiley, a ten-year South Shore resident, died suddenly Tuesday morning, May 8, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at her home. She was born July 2, 1917, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Walter W. and Julia Monica Sheerin Kuhn. Mrs. Reiley led a rich and rewarding life, and was always regarded as a determined and courageous woman. After opening a specialty store in Indianapolis with her cousin Barbara Rocap, she left to work with the American Red Cross, Services to Armed Forces, during World War II, establishing Club Service in Italy, Yugoslavia, and North Africa. Returning to the United States, she met her future husband, George Chatillon Reiley, in New York City. The Reileys raised their young family in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, where Mrs. Reiley was actively involved in the American Red Cross Service to Family and Friends of the Military, the Junior League of Connecticut, and the Greenwich Garden Club, and she was member of a group of Roman Catholic parents that established the Whitby School, the first Montessori School in the United States. She graduated from Georgetown Visitation School, in Washington, D.C., and later attended Connecticut College for Women. She is survived by her children, Monica Reiley, of Hingham, Massachusetts, George and Jane Reiley, of Cave Creek, Arizona, Sara and Kevin Ryan, of Dummerston, Vermont; niece Holly Kuhn Lee, nephews Walter and Thomas Kuhn, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Reiley, and her brother, Walter “Bud” W. Kuhn, Jr., of Indianapolis . A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 12, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham. Burial in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
