Mary Patricia (Plant) Tormey of Quincy, passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2023. She was 69.
Mary was born on December 9, 1953 to the late Richard Plant and his wife Mary “Pat” (Daigle). She lived her whole life in Quincy, graduating from Quincy High School in 1972. Mary studied nursing at Quincy Junior College, graduated with her BSN from Boston University, and later earned her Masters as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Boston College. She started her 45 year nursing career at Boston City Hospital, then Carney Hospital, and spent the last 3 decades working for the Department of Youth Services at various locations. Mary was always dedicated to the care of her patients, regardless of the severity of their condition or why life brought them to her. Throughout her life, Mary remained dedicated to her family, particularly her children and grandchildren, who knew her as Mimi. She never missed a birthday and always made Christmas special. 4th of July was quite the spectacle, making sure that everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to America and handing out flags for all the grandkids to wave. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed taking walks, and was a dedicated Boston sports fan. She loved to gather to watch the Patriots or the Red Sox and tell stories over pizza, especially funny tales of her parents and about growing up with her siblings and how their signature red hair made it difficult to get away with much around the neighborhood. Her favorite moments were spent with her feet in the sand and the sun on her face, surrounded by all her children and grandchildren on the beach in Falmouth.
Mary was the beloved mother of John Tormey (Sarah) of Taunton, Erin Youhas (Kevin) of Braintree, Joseph Tormey (Trisha) of Braintree, and Michael Tormey (Natalie) of Canton. Caring sister of Linda Herlihy (the late Dan) of Pembroke, Joseph Plant (Sheila) of Carver, Lawrence Plant, the late Richard Plant, and sister in law to Jane Plant. Cherished grandmother to her 12 grandchildren; Joey, Cal, Kathleen, Charlie, Kieran, Luke, Declan, Owen, Colin, Nora, Roan, and Silas. Loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. Also survived by her ex-husband John Tormey of Tyngsboro.
