Lombardo, Mary P. (Pitkin) of Hingham, died on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. She had just celebrated her 95th birthday with her family on August 31. Beloved wife of the late John B. Lombardo. Loving mother of James J. Lombardo and his wife Nancy of PA, Florence G. Nurse and her husband Ron of FL, Elizabeth “Betsy” Sullivan and her husband Brian of Plymouth, Peter C. Lombardo and his wife Kathy of Hull and the late Richard H. Lombardo. Sister of Calvin E. Wilson of VT and the late Grace Ballou, Frederick C. & John H. Pitkin and Ruth A. Clifford. Mary is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She also leaves many nieces , nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Mary was born and raised at Oak Ledge Farm in Pomfret, Vermont. She was proud of this, as this was the same farm where the late Pope John Paul II studied and now has a tribute there to honor him. In her late teens, Mary came to Hingham and began working as a housekeeper for several families living on Main Street. It was at that point she met John. They married and raised their family in Hingham. Mary was a member of the Sons of Italy in Hingham and was recording secretary for 11 years. She also was a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Women’s Club at St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham. While living on Kilby Street, she was part of the “Sewing Circle”. Active in town politics, Mary volunteered at the polls. She loved to cook and garden. Her true devotion was to her family. She dedicated her life to her husband and took great pride in raising her children and later doted on her grandchildren. Mary will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have known her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to St. Paul’s Parish, 147 North St. Hingham, MA 02043 or the Patients Activities Fund, c/o Baypath Nursing Home, 308 Kingstown Way, Duxbury, MA 02332.
