McNally, Mary T. of North Quincy, died July 30, 2024. The beloved wife of the late Thomas “Tony” McNally of North Quincy. Loving mother of Ann McNally and Cara McNally, both of North Quincy. Daughter of the late Mary Kate, née Glynn, and Patrick McDermott. Mary was pre-deceased by her sisters: Bridie Costello and Kathleen Mitchell; and her brothers: John, Patrick, Thomas, William, and Christopher McDermott. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born and raised on a farm outside Ahascragh, County Galway, Ireland. She studied at “The Tech,” and worked at a grocery store. She emigrated to the United States in the 1960s, starting off in Illinois, where her brother, sister, and aunt lived. She also lived in England for a while, before moving to Massachusetts, where she met her husband, Tony, at an Irish dance.
She worked at Jordan Marsh as an accounting supervisor until 1970, and as a home health aide from the late 1970s until the early 2000s. She enjoyed day trips to the beach and vacations on Cape Cod.
She will be remembered as a kind lady, who was devoted to her family. After she developed Alzheimer’s disease, she was known to say “Clap! Clap!” in place of thank you! She always said “God bless you!” to anyone who paid her a kindness. She will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday August 6, 2024 from 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday August 7th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Donations may be made in memory of Mary to Quincy Animal Shelter, 440 East Squantum Street, Quincy, MA 02171, www.quincyanimalshelter.org; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org.
