Mary “Maya” Carpenter, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, January 10th, peacefully at home. She was 95.
Loving mother of Julie Carpenter, of Hull. Sister of Mark Madden of Hyde Park, Ann Howard of New Jersey, the late Paul Madden of New York and also survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary grew up in Brighton and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, attended Framingham State College and received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons College. She taught school in East Hartford, CT, before going overseas to teach in Badtolz, Germany. Upon returning, she taught at the Maret School in Washington, DC, the County Day School of the Sacred Heart in Newton, before becoming the Librarian at Wellesley High School.
In her younger years, she was a professional ballroom dancer and an avid skier.
She spent her summers in Hull from the age of 4, before retiring and making the town she so loved, her permanent residence. Mary thoroughly enjoyed the beach and could be found most summer days relishing the sun and the ocean.
After retiring she spent many years taking courses at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
Services for Mary will be private, however donations in her honor can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Hull, MA
