Mary Lou White (Cleary) of Abington, formerly of Dorchester, died April 20, 2022 at the age of 83.
Lou was the wife of the late Edward F. White. Loving mother of Edward R. White of Boston, John J. White, and William M. White, both of Abington. Proud “Nana” of Kaila, Julea, William Jr., and Gianna. Sister of the late John Cleary and the late Kathryn Patricia Dalziel. Sister in law of the late John Dalziel; Walter and Rita, Bob and Kay, Arthur, Betty, Ralph White, Mary and Pat McKenna.Cousin of Betty Gelly, Martin Cleary, Jr., Richard Cleary, Evelyn Gallagher, and the late Frank Cleary and his wife Peggy. Godmother to Kathy Howie, Joe Fratus and Matt Wolongevicz. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Lou grew up in the South End and Fields Corner in Boston. She graduated from the Beverly School of Nursing in 1960 and began her career as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital. In 1964, she and her husband Eddie moved to Abington to raise their family. She continued to work as a registered nurse at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for 10 years. She later worked as a private nurse for a disabled child, part-time with the Visiting Nurse Association and concluded her career at the North River Collaborative in Rockland and Colony House Nursing Home in Abington. Lou was her family’s medical advocate and the go-to person for any health related questions. She was always more than happy to help loved ones in need. Lou’s family was the center of her life. She prioritized caring for her home and family and was an excellent seamstress and cook. Her specialties included mashed potatoes, meatballs, and her famous homemade relish. She enjoyed playing cards with Meg and Pop and at the Andersons as well as Bingo at the local churches and Knight’s of Columbus halls with friends she loved.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday 4/28 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Friday 4/29 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, Abington at 10:30 AM. Donations in memory of Lou may be made to the North River Collaborative, 198 Spring St., Rockland, MA 02370.
