Marquis, Mary L. (Perry) of S. Weymouth passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on August 17, 2021.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years Walter O. Marquis, her parents, Rene and Mary Perry and siblings Alice (Perry) Fitzmaurice, Virginia, Bernadette, Genevieve, Robert, John, Thomas and Patricia Perry.
Mary is survived by her sons Walter Marquis of Hollis NH, Paul and his wife Mona Marquis of Plymouth, David Marquis of S. Weymouth, James and his wife Kristine Marquis of Plymouth and Peter and his wife Kathryn Marquis of Dallas, TX. as well as her grandchildren Lindsay, Joshua, Dennis, Scott, Carolyn, Karen and Jack Marquis and (step) grandchildren Rachel and Cameron Scigliano.
Affectionately known as Mary Lou her entire life, she was born in Lynn Mass on February 6, 1927. Mary Lou was raised in Dorchester, attending St Matthews elementary school and graduating from Dorchester High school class of 1945. Prior to her marriage, Mary Lou worked for Boston Edison, however she left in order to devote her full attention to raising five boys. In later years Mary Lou began working as a cashier for Bradlees in the Derby Street Plaza. After that store was demolished and replaced by Kohls, Mary Lou was one of their first applicants and worked there as a cashier until her retirement at the age of 91.
Mary Lou’s favorite activity was spending time with her family. Most notable were the numerous cruises, Island vacations and frequent trips to Hawaii shared with her husband Walter and son David.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday August 22 from 3-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rt. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Monday August 23, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 12:00 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
A devout Christian, Mary Lou was a long-time communicant and supporter of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Weymouth. Prior to leaving the church, the Funeral recession will pause at the stained-glass window depicting Saint Joseph. This piece, donated by Mary Lou, is located adjacent to her and son David’s favored seats and will serve to memorialize her devotion to, and presence within, her Church.

Normally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although some may not be able to gather together with Mary Lou’s family at this time, friends may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message.
