Mary L. (Francis) Conkey of Weymouth, died March 2, 2024. She fought her battle against Alzheimers disease with grace and courage. The beloved mother of Joseph A. Conkey and his wife Sharon of Niguel, CA, Paula M. Conkey and her husband John of Georgetown ,TX and Diane Tanashian and her husband Gregory of Weymouth. Daughter of the late John W. Francis and Florence M. (Paige ) Francis. Sister of the late Donald Francis, John Francis and William Francis. Mary was the cherished Nana to her six grandchildren, Jackie, Gianna, Andrew, Danielle, Teresa and Kaitlyn. Mary Lou is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Mary was born on June 5, 1945 in Boston, Ma. She grew up in Dorchester and she proudly referred to herself as a “Dot Girl”. Mary was a graduate of Boston City School of Nursing where she earned her RN diploma in 1966. She went on to work for many years at Boston City Hospital before moving on to work at Brigham and Women’s as a postpartum nurse. It was at the Brigham where Mary met many lifelong friends and created many wonderful memories until her retirement in 2010. Mary loved to travel especially to her second home in Marco Island, Florida. She was a diehard NE Patriots fan, never missing a game on tv. She was also an avid shopper and loved to go on walks and rides, particularly to Nantasket beach with her beloved granddaughters, Jackie and Gianna. Mary was a very generous person who lived life to the fullest and she loved her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving her. Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care that she received from all the staff at Royal Nursing Home Braintree and Caring Hospice,their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on March 8, Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, 1203 Commerical St., Weymouth at 10 AM. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Mary Lou, please donate blood to the American Red Cross.
