Cowley, Mary K. of Quincy, January 3, 2010. Beloved sister of Gertrude Kowalik of Braintree, Theresa Cowley of Quincy and the late Anne Desmond, Walter, Lawrence, John and Francis Cowley. Mary is also lovingly survived by 20 nieces and nephews and 32 great-nieces and nephews. Mary was a 1936 graduate of Dorchester High School for Girls, and a 1940 graduate from the Boston Clerical School. Mary also received specialized computer training at Northeastern University in the mid-1960’s, while employed by the US Navy. Mary was a civilian employee of the US Navy for 33 years, beginning her career as a secretary at the US Navy Dept in Washington, in August 1941. During World War II she worked in multiple accounting and finance positions at the Navy Department in Washington, DC and at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth, Ma. After World War II Mary continued working in South Weymouth, first as secretary to the Commanding Officer, then as a Deputy to the Base Finance Officer. Prior to retiring in 1973, Mary worked three years as a Supervisor in the Navy Finance Office in Boston, Ma. Mary was an avid reader and also enjoyed traveling and listening to popular music. Mary was a person who was always there to help her friends and family. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Friday 4- 8PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Saturday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church at 10:00 AM. Burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the American Lung Assoc . of MA, 460 Trotten Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA
