Gallagher, Mary Irene (Connington) of Quincy, September 11, 2004. Beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Gallagher. Loving mother of Patricia Scearbo and her husband Fred of Woburn, Helen Rullis and her husband Ken of Little River, SC, Thomas Gallagher of Quincy, Joanne Calhoun of Canton, Kathleen Grennon and her husband Ed of Quincy and the late Linda Gallagher. Loving sister of James Connington of FL and Ruth Brennan and her husband George of Westwood. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Married Joseph L. Gallagher in 1935 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1985 with a large party of family and friends.Very active in community service in Boston for many years and served as an officer of various mother’s clubs associated with herchildren’s schools. In 1977 she was recognized by Saint Colletta’s Day School in Braintree at a dinner honoring her “OutstandingDedicated Service.”Mr. Gallagher was a retired Boston Police Officer for many years andMrs. Gallagher was a founding member of the Boston PoliceWives Association and in 1948 she was its President. She traveledthroughout the state with her committee encouraging other wivesof police officers to form Associations in their own cities andtowns and the City of Quincy was one of the places they visited.Mrs. Gallagher loved to travel and accompanied the Boston PoliceDept. on five occasions to its annual trip to march in Dublin in theSaint Patrick’s Day Parade. On a few occasions she extended hertrip to Ireland to visit cousins in the hometowns of her parents. The Gallaghers vacationed each winter for over 25 years at the PinesResort in Indian Harbour Beach, FL.Mrs. Gallagher was a member of the Merryshores Senior CitizenGroup in Quincy and was its President for over ten years until herillness caused her to resign earlier this year.They moved to Quincy in 1969 and was honored at a 90th birthday party attended by 90 people in April of this year.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Tuesday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Boston. Donations in memory of Mrs. Gallagher may be made to Road to Responsibility 30 Pond Park Road Hingham, MA 02043.
