Mary Helen Santry

Mary Helen Santry, née McGinniss, longtime resident of Weymouth, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017.  Mary succumbed to the symptoms of motor neuron disease after a long illness.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Santry, she is survived by Mary Katherine Santry of Weymouth, Joan Dee Santry of Whitman, Janet Santry Brown of Hingham, and John Christopher Santry of Los Angeles, as well as their spouses and her six grandchildren.

Born in 1930, to Edward McGinniss and Helen Agnes McGinniss, née Dee, Mary took great pride in her Bellows Falls, Vermont roots.  She was pre-deceased by her brother, Jerome McGinniss, of Vermont, survived by John McGinniss of Florida, and Janet McGinniss of California.  After graduating from High School, Mary went on to study at the Elliot Hospital School of Nursing in Manchester, NH, and then worked as an RN at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester, MA.

Mary was an engaging and intelligent woman, adept at forging friendships wherever she went.  Her many passions included genealogy, PBS, water color painting, reading her NOOK, and progressive politics.

At the request of the family, all services will be private.  Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Heartfelt thanks go to the phenomenal care Mary received for seven months at Pat Roche Hospice in Hingham.  Ron Hoffman, Founder of Compassionate Care ALS provided tremendous logistical and emotional support to Mary and the family.

Charitable donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA  02061 or CCALS, P. O. Box #1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574 or CCALS.org.
