Mary Ellen Downey

Downey, Mary Ellen of Quincy, formerly of Milton, died October 11, 2014.

Mary Ellen was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  She resided in Quincy for over 40 years. Sister of the late Maurice & John Downey and is survived by her loving sister Margaret Abbott of Florida.  Loving aunt of many nieces & nephews, as well as grand-nieces and nephews.

She completed her Undergraduate Degree at Boston College and her MBA Degree at Northeastern while employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She held the position of Personnel Director at the Federal Reserve Bank for many years till retiring in 1988. She was devoted to parish work at Sacred Heart Parish in Quincy.  She was president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Ministry at Sacred Heart for 30 years. She was a reader at Masses for many years as well as being active in other various parish ministries. She was an active leader in the Cursillo Movement. In leisure time, she enjoyed skiing and in recent years golfing and spending time at her Cape Cod residence in the summer.  Most especially, she enjoyed the time she spent with her nieces, nephews. 

Visitation at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY on Thursday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9:00 AM prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Quincy.  Burial immediately following at New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
