Mary E. (Tirrell) Picard

Mary Elizabeth (Tirrell) Picard has folded her beach chair and put away her gardening shears for the last time.  She passed away peacefully on March 14, 2016 with her family by her side.  She lived a long, rich life and would have turned 94 on May 7th.

Born in Brighton, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Theresa (Fallon) and Joseph H. Tirrell.

Mary was raised in Brighton and was a graduate of Brighton High School and Boston Business School.  As a member of the greatest generation, she was employed by the Transport Command of the United States Air Force in Washington D.C. during WWll.  Following her marriage to Robert Picard, she moved to Quincy and lived there for 65 years.  Mary & Robert spent many retirement years enjoying travel and wintering in Fort Pierce, Florida.  She was a kind, gentle and valiant woman who was happiest when surrounded by her family.  She enjoyed dancing, reading, gardening and time at the beach.

Mary will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing her; she possessed a wonderful, dry Irish wit.

She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Robert F. Picard.  Mary is survived by her children; Linda of Quincy, Mary and her husband, Peter Reilly of Rye, NH and John Picard of Quincy and Judy Devlin of Quincy.  She was the grandmother of seven grandchildren; Nicole Picard and Kristen Gumz, Robert and Roxann Picard, Colin and Marissa Reilly and Christina Devlin, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by by her nieces Brenda Magri, Joan Barton and her sister in law Helen Harris.   She was predeceased by her three sons; Joseph, Brian and David Picard, and her siblings; Irene Barton, Ethel Tirrell, Kenneth Tirrell and Patricia Nichols and beloved nieces Irene Smith and Maureen Blando.
