Mary E. (McLaughlin) Monahan of Weymouth, formerly of Roxbury and Dorchester, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022. She was 78 years old.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Monahan for 49 incredible years. She was the proud mother of Francis “Jude” Monahan and his wife Susan of Weymouth, and Michael “Mickey” Monahan and his wife Julie of Quincy. She was the devoted Nana to Shayley, Brendan, Daniel, and Michaela Monahan. She was the cherished daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Gibbons) McLaughlin, both from Donegal, Ireland. She was the loving sister of Patrick “Joe” McLaughlin and his wife Elly of Osterville, John “Jackie” McLaughlin and his wife Carol of Cambridge, Irene (McLaughlin) Stauber of Quincy, and the late Anna McLaughlin. Mary will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Mary grew up in Roxbury, where she formed many of the friendships that would last a lifetime. She married Frank, who was a dear friend of her brother Joe, in 1967. They started their life together in Dorchester and soon began raising their family. They moved to their present home in Weymouth in 1988. Mary worked for the Welch Senior Living Community in Braintree for many years. After retirement she volunteered at The Arc of the South Shore where she found great fulfillment in helping those with disabilities. Mary enjoyed arts & crafts and reading, but she especially loved cooking for others. Her greatest love was her family. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, October 20, from 4-8 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday, October 21, at 9:45 AM prior to the Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff on Ellison 11 at Massachusetts General Hospital for your compassionate attention and extraordinary care you provided to Mary in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St. Francis House, 39 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116, which held a very special place in Mary’s heart.
