Farren, Mary Elizabeth, age 74, due to complications of Covid-19 and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mary was born in South Boston and raised in Peabody. She graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, Salem Hospital School of Nursing and UMass Boston. Mary spent her entire career as nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Mount Auburn Hospital and The Veterans Administration Hospitals in Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Brockton. She also volunteered at The Pine Street Inn Homeless Shelter in Boston.
She was the daughter of the late James J. Farren and Mary (Geary) Farren and sister of the late Neil Farren. Survived by sister Barbara Connolly and her husband William of Weymouth, brother James Farren and his wife Maureen of Amesbury, brother Jack Farren of Marlborough, brother Kevin Farren and his wife Peggy Farren of Quincy and sister Sheila Farren of Scituate. Also survived by her beloved Aunt Catherine “Kay” Kudla of Quincy and her best friend of 50 years, Carol Rohan and her husband Brian of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary enjoyed traveling to Ireland, Bermuda, New England and many other places in the U.S. and Europe. She was a devoted nurse to her patients, especially the many veterans she cared for. She was a great storyteller, was very talented at accents, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed reading and the Red Sox.
Mary lived in Brighton and Quincy before moving to Allerton House Assisted Living in Weymouth after diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease in March of 2018 and then to the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham after a long-haul of complications from Covid-19 in June, 2021.
A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth Landing on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 10:45 AM. Cremation services will be private and held at a later date. Given the fact that Mary’s death was hastened by complications from Covid-19, the family respectfully requests that funeral attendees be both vaccinated and wear a mask.
