Dunphy, Jr. and his wife Linda of Hull, Anne Corbett and her husband Brian of Wakefield, Kathleen Connelly and her husband Edward of Westwood, Mary Adams and her husband John and Michael Dunphy and his wife Janice all of Hull and Thomas Dunphy and his wife Mary of  Mt. Sister -in- Law of Adele Mortell of WI, Maggie Mortell of MS, William “Bill” Mitchell and his late wife Irene (Dunphy) Mitchell of Hull. Mary is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Mary Mortell was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of a dentist and a homemaker. She served as a second mother to her three younger brothers. Mary was a champion speed skater, and she loved the family cottage in Eagle River where she enjoyed water skiing and swimming. After high school Mary traveled with a friend to Washington, D.C., and she worked in the Senate Office Building during WWII. She met her future husband Paul and they married in Chevy Chase before Paul shipped out to Okinawa. They were both proud representatives of the Greatest Generation. After the war they settled on Mayflower Ave. in Hull and raised their three boys and three girls. Mary was active in all of her children’s activities, instilling her Midwestern family values, and encouraging them to value their educations. She was a pioneer working Mom in the late 60’s when the tuition bills arrived. She was an accountant for the Cleverly and Dunphy Electrical Company and Goodyear Service Store. She retired in 1995 from a twenty- year career at Talbot’s Corporate Office. After her first husband passed at a young age, Mary enjoyed several years of marriage to George Card and they spent the winters in Florida. Mary was an avid reader and a Red Sox fan. Mary’s favorite times were spent with family, she never refused a dinner invitation, and she never missed a family get together. Mary generously sent all of her family members birthday cards. In September, Mary was honored with a 90th birthday party attended by 65 relatives from as far away as California. Mary was a devout Catholic and a weekly communicant at St. Mary’s Parish. Mary was the kindest person you would ever want to meet! She will be greatly missed by her children, the out-laws, her grandchildren and spouses, her great grandchildren and her dear friends at her last home in Thaxter Park.
