Mary D. Gallagher

Friends Old and New

Memories Mary wrote to share at her eulogy:

I graduated from Rosary Academy in Watertown.   I loved deep sea fishing with my father and being with my wonderful girlfriends Pauline Zammitto and Josie Zanco in Waltham and the O’Malley sisters in Hough’s Neck.

I was on the North Quincy, Alley Cat and Koch Club bowling teams. Because of my last name I was known as “Connie” or “Cornstarch”. I also played for the Mary Pratt, Koch Club and North Quincy Raiderettes softball teams.

I loved taking care of the kids as Traffic Supervisor for 29 years They were the best kids in the world. I call them “my chickadees” and I am still known as “Mrs. G”.  The parents and principal were wonderful to me.  I broadcast a Safety Talk every Monday morning at the Wollaston School and I thank the principal and all the teachers who helped me keep my chickadees safe and happy.

I have old friends from working at Stop and Shop and many new ones from going there every day. The two who helped me so much there, and at home, are Eileen and Mark Dargon.

On Brook street Tom Vostock and Ronald Cote were good neighbors and friends. Danny Lyons, my chickadee and mailman for 13 years, always checked on me, he was great.

John Regal is the best, helping me with the house and especially my cat Tommy. I always depend on him.  Elizabeth Leary is a wonderful friend and excellent physical therapist.  She helped me heal from my surgeries for 20 years.  She got my broken arm back into such great shape that the doctor yelled with surprise.

When Mary asked me to do her eulogy she wanted one specific thing said about her and I will close with that:  “She had a kind face”.
