Mary C. (Hernon) Smith, of Weymouth, passed away on June 2, 2021 at the age of 90.
Beloved wife of the late Paul J. Smith. Loving mother of Jeanne Smith of Weymouth, Paul Smith and his late wife Mary of Weymouth, Marianne O’Brien and her husband, Stephen of Quincy, Barbara Esposito and her husband, Scott of Cohasset, William Smith and his wife, Louise of Weymouth and Florida, David Smith and his wife, Debra of Weymouth, Carolyn Nickas and her husband, Anthony of South Hamilton, and John Smith and his wife Nancy of Weymouth. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Bridget (Powell) and her brother Joseph.
Mary was born in Dorchester, MA on February 8, 1931. She had a wonderful childhood. She enjoyed her cousins from Ireland, many of whom stayed with her and her family. They spent many summers at Carson’s Beach in South Boston. Mary graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1948 where she made many friends and looked forward to attending the class reunion luncheons well into her eighties.
Mary met her husband Paul when she was 16 and they married a few years later. They enjoyed 66 years of marital bliss. The relationship between Mary and her husband was one to be greatly admired. They supported and loved each other unconditionally. Mary had many friends throughout the years including a special group from the Talbot Club.
Mary was an exceptional wife and mother who cared deeply for her family. She was a stay-at-home mother for her eight children and she worked harder than most people working a full time job outside the home. She was always taking one or more of her children to an activity whether it was 5:00 am hockey or 5:00 pm ball game and making suredinner was on the table and everything in between. It was a happy home for all. She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, June 8th from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square).
