Mary A. Shields

Mary A (Donohue) Shields of Weymouth (previously of Fields Corner, Dorchester) died on her 95th birthday April 17, 2020 from complication of Covid 19. The beloved wife of the late James S Shields. Devoted mother of James Shields and his wife Frances of Quincy, Paul Shields and his wife Miriam, Stephen Shields and his wife Patricia and Robert Shields and his partner Pamela Kuzia, all of Weymouth. Cherished sister of Catherine (Kay) Donnelly of Hanover. Loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dear Aunt to Jay, Nancy and her sweet Erin. Mary worked for many years as a Nursing Assistant in a Nursing Home. She spent her last working years as a nanny, traveling to Beacon Hill on the Red Line train everyday. She did not retire until she was 82 years old. Mary enjoyed her frequent road trips with her sister Kay and niece Erin, especially loving their stays on Cape Cod. She enjoyed her daily telephone chats with her best friend and sister, Kay, talking for hours in the evening. She enjoyed playing Bingo at her Nursing Home and never turned down a scratch ticket. The cornerstone of her life was her faith and family. She said prayers for everyone every night. Although they are heartbroken at her loss, they are grateful for all the blessings she brought into their lives. Mary will be sadly missed. Her family is thankful for all the special friendships she made with other residents and staff at Pope Nursing Home.

In consideration of current events and keeping in mind our number one priority of protecting our families and community Mary’s services will be private. Normally the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with Mary’s family at this time friends and family may still offer their support by sharing a special memory or message by clicking the link above.
